'Back to Holbrook' '08 Fly-in

Yes its on again ...... following the huge success of the inaugural event in 2006 and last year's rather damp event, Holbrook will again be the place to be on the first weekend of November. Click here for photos of the 2006 event.

Holbrook Ultralight Club (HULC) is hosting the third annual ‘Back to Holbrook Fly-in’ focusing on 95.10 and 95.25 'rag and tube' aircraft on the weekend of 1st & 2nd November 2008.

HULC welcomes pilots of smaller and slower ultralights aircraft often referred to, with the greatest affection, as 'rag-and-tube' aircraft. Of course all aircraft are welcome but we would particularly like to encourage the lighter ultralight aircraft types and provide them with an event that allows them to enjoy a fly-in experience without the worry of traffic conflicts with heaver and faster aircraft that is often the case.

Real 'rag and tube' ultralight aircraft like the Chinook, Beaver, Thruster, Skydart, Rotec Rally, Quicksilver, Sportsman, Cricket, Eagle, B1-RD, Hawk, Whing Ding, Pterodactyl, Flightstar, Grasshopper, Bunyip, Wombat, Tyro, Farm-mate, Supa-Pup, Pegusus etc. still exist all over the country but they are seldom seen and then probably only at local Fly-Ins or Club events. Some of the very early examples haven't been seen in any number for more than a decade, surviving in the hands of enthusiasts, and suffer the risk of being forgotten simply because they are too slow, too cold or too old.

Unwilling to forget their important place in aviation history, Holbrook Ultralight Club has been collecting examples of the rarer breeds over the past 18 months or so and is well on the way to establishing the Australian Ultralight Aircraft Museum which will depict the evolution of ultralight aircraft. The current Museum aircraft, along with any others flown or trailered in for the weekend, will be featured and will be on display at the Fly-In.
